Another spouse

Our spouses are an integral part of our experience as Missileers and Maintainers. This area is for them to share their experiences and questions regarding life in the missile field and beyond.

I'm not sure if many people come on this site...especially spouses! But I thought it may be a good place to meet other missile spouses and share our experiences! : )

Welcome! Not many spouses have joined the Missile Forums as of yet, but if the word gets around, hopefully more join.

I do have a question though. I'm engaged and will be leaving Vandenberg in May to go on alert at one of the missile bases. How is it with the new 3 day alerts for spouses? My fiancee is supportive, so it shouldn't be a problem, but I would like to find out how other spouses cope with it, so I can make her feel better about me being gone for 3 days at a time.

Thanks,
Cory

the best advice for her, and you, is simple: get involved. get involved with your church. get involved with friends. go out and meet people. join the spouses club. just get involved.

if she sits at home just counting the minutes until you come home, then life is going to suck for both of you. granted, when I pulled alert in the missile field, it was only for 24 hours. my wife had a job, and was quite active with the people she worked with. my alerts now are a week long. last summer, they where two weeks long, and 7 hours away. again, she doesn't just sit at home and mope.

as long as your fiancee/wife has something to be involved with while you're gone, then things should be okay.

buying a dog won't hurt, either...

Honestly....it's hard. The spouses that seem to do the best are the ones that work and don't have kids. Mostly because they get out of the house all the time, even during the winters. Where those with little kids get stuck at home because of the cold. It is also eaiser for them to socialize because they don't have to worry about babysitters, etc. I highly suggest getting involved with the squadron spouses and also the Officer Spouses Club. I have gotten to know some wonderful people and made wonderful friends by just getting involved. I volunteer all the time and it helps pass the time....it's also greatly needed. The missile community is really great! Very close and honestly would do anything for you. If you do plan to have kids up here, which many do (we're on our second!) you can do it! It just makes it a little more difficult with 3 days that's all. I have found ways to get babysitters, stay involved, and make really great friends all with a toddler and now pregnant again!

My hope is 3 days aren't sticking around...we'll see. But what a mess! :(

I hope to help get this site out to Missile spouses I firmly believe once a missile spouse always a missile spouse mostly because those of use who have already experience missile have so much knowledge to share with one another. So, please if any of you have spouses out there that have questions about what is't like or just general discussion feel free to contact me.
