"If they have one nuclear bomb we must have two, If they have 10 we must have 20, if they have 100 we must have 200, if they have 1000 we must have 2000, if they have 10,000 we must have 20,000, etc. etc.

Not a real quote but I am sure that is how the whole damn thing got started. And the "we" and the "they" are interchangeable.

Some quotes I collected over the years from various places...

"None of us wants or expects these nuclear plans to be executed, but our ability to do this planning accurately and reliably is fundamental to deterrence." ~General Thomas Power

"My solution to the problem [Vietnam] would be to tell them frankly that they have got to draw in their horns and stop their aggression, or we are going to bomb them back into the Stone Age." ~General Curtis LeMay

"The Supreme Excellence is not to win a hundred victories in a hundred battles. The Supreme excellence is to subdue your enemies without even having to fight them" ~Sun Tzu

"When you see a rattlesnake poised to strike, you do not wait until he has struck before you crush him." ~FDR

"It is not armaments that cause war, but war that causes armaments." ~Salvador de Madariaga

"The A-bomb is the most destructive weapon known today. As a believer in humanity I deplore its use, and as a soldier, I respect it." ~General Omar Bradley

"The way to win an atomic war is to make certain it never starts." ~General Omar Bradley

"A nation, regardless of its protestations, if it feels that its national existence is threatened and that it is losing a war, will turn to any weapon it can use." ~Walter Bedell Smith

"The Bomb brought about peace, but man alone can keep that peace." ~Winston Churchill

"Forces that cannot win, will not deter." ~General Nathan Twining

"Only when our arms are sufficient beyond doubt can we be certain that they will never be employed." ~JFK

"The longer deterrence succeeds, the more difficult it is to demonstrate what made it work." ~Henry Kissinger

"To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace." ~George Washington

"Nations do not arm for war. They arm to keep themselves from war." ~Barry Goldwater

"If that's the only thing that's stopping war, then thank God for the Bomb." ~Ozzy Osbourne

"It is the greatest possible mistake to mix up disarmament with peace. When you have peace, you will have disarmament." ~Winston Churchill

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." ~George Orwell

"They will win their battles without having to fight, so at last the day may be won without having to shed a drop of blood." ~Sun Tzu

"No punishment is your reward for a job well done." ~SAC

"If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst forth at once in the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One... I am become Death, the shatterer of worlds." ~Bhagavad Gita, sacred Hindu epic recited by Robert Oppenheimer viewing the world's first atomic bomb test on 16 July 1945

"Be careful above all things not to let go of the atomic weapon until you are sure and more than sure that other means of preserving peace are in your hands." ~Winston Churchill

This is not directly about nuclear warfare but...

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." [John Stuart Mill]

Here is a link to a post I made back in 2008 about an Alert I had at C-0 with my Commander, Art Hebbeler:

Sorry I was typing too fast and did not fully review the spelling. Since we were on crew together for quite a while and even did a FOT&E launch together I should have honored him by not mis-typing his name.

P.S. I will make an excuse! I have been fighting MRSA for a couple of months now and the past week it attacked again. I have been home for over a week now and am on antibiotics and Percocet. THE PERCOCET MADE ME DO IT! :D

Whoa! Watch out for MRSA. Follow your doctors orders! Also, since I am a doctor, I have additional orders:

You are hereby placed in DNI-MF (duty not involving missile forums) status. To assist in pain reduction, enjoy (1) shot of single malt scotch PRN! j/k

Not reall quotes but song by the Grateful Dead about nuclear war Throwing Stones & Morning Dew writen by Bonnie Dobson

Morning Dew

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

I thought I heard a baby cry this morning,
I thought I heard a baby cry this today.
You didn't hear no baby cry this morning,
You didn't hear no baby cry today.

Where have all the people gone my honey,
Where have all the people gone today.
There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people,
You never see those people anyway.

I thought I heard a young man moan this morning,
I thought I heard a young man moan today.
I thought I heard a young man moan this morning,
I can't walk you out in the morning dew today.

Walk me out in the morning dew my honey,
Walk me out in the morning dew today.
I'll walk you out in the morning dew my honey,
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
I guess it doesn't matter anyway,
Guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Trowing Stones

Picture a bright blue ball, just spinning, spinnin free,
Dizzy with eternity.
Paint it with a skin of sky,
Brush in some clouds and sea,
Call it home for you and me.
A peaceful place or so it looks from space,
A closer look reveals the human race.
Full of hope, full of grace
Is the human face,
But afraid we may lay our home to waste.

There's a fear down here we can't forget.
Hasn't got a name just yet.
Always awake, always around,
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.

Now watch as the ball revolves
And the nighttime falls.
Again the hunt begins,
Again the bloodwind calls.
By and by, the morning sun will rise,
But the darkness never goes
From some men's eyes.
It strolls the sidewalks and it rolls the streets,
Staking turf, dividing up meat.
Nightmare spook, piece of heat,
It's you and me.
You and me.

Click flash blade in ghetto night,
Rudies looking for a fight.
Rat cat alley, roll them bones.
Need that cash to feed that jones.
And the politicians throwin' stones,
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.

[Bridge:]
Commissars and pin-stripe bosses
Roll the dice.
Any way they fall,
Guess who gets to pay the price.
Money green or proletarian gray,
Selling guns 'stead of food today.

So the kids they dance
And shake their bones,
And the politicians throwin' stones,
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.

Heartless powers try to tell us
What to think.
If the spirit's sleeping,
Then the flesh is ink
History's page will thus be carved in stone.
And we are here, and we are on our own
On our own.
On our own.
On our own.

[Instrumental]

If the game is lost,
Then we're all the same.
No one left to place or take the blame.
We can leave this place and empty stone
Or that shinin' ball we used to call our home.

So the kids they dance
And shake their bones,
And the politicians throwin' stones,
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.

[Bridge two:] Shipping powders back and forth
Singing black goes south and white comes north.
In a whole world full of petty wars
Singing I got mine and you got yours.
And the current fashion sets the pace,
Lose your step, fall out of grace.
And the radical, he rant and rage,
Singing someone's got to turn the page.
And the rich man in his summer home,
Singing just leave well enough alone.
But his pants are down, his cover's blown...

And the politicians throwin' stones,
So the kids they dance
And shake their bones,
And it's all too clear we're on our own.
Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.

Picture a bright blue ball,
Just spinnin', spinnin, free.
Dizzy with the possibilities.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.
Ashes, ashes, all fall down.
