Global Thermonuclear Quotes

Postby SAC Killer on Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:52 pm

I've noticed interesting quotes from time to time in the Forum. And today I stumbled across a fun one and it occurred to me we might want to start a new topic to collect them. Here's the one I found today:

"If I could eliminate either advertising or nuclear weapons, I would choose advertising."

At least nuclear weapons don't interrupt your TV show (unless they go off).

I remember a Playboy cartoon from back in the 70s. Two Air Force top brass open the lid of their bunker and see nothing but complete devastation. One says to the other, "Well General, it's a whole new ball game."

Well, boys, I reckon this is it - nuclear combat toe to toe with the Roosskies... I reckon you wouldn't even be human being if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelings about nuclear combat.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

I've been making a few rough calculations based on the effect of two twenty megaton bombs dropped on New York City in the middle of a normal workday. I estimate the immediate dead at about three million. I include in that figure those buried beneath the collapsed buildings. It would make no difference, Admiral Wilcox, whether they reached a shelter or not. They would die just the same. Add another million or two who will die within about five weeks. Now our immediate problem will be the joint one of fire control and excavation. Excavation not of the dead, the effort would be wasted there. But even though there are no irreplaceable government documents in the city, many of our largest corporations keep their records there. It will be necessary to... rescue as many of those records as we can. Our economy depends on this.

Or the alternate reality version...

Back in the day we used various permutations of "nuke 'em till they glow." In SAC most of our coffee mugs said "SAC Trained Killer." A friend of mine in DOT changed that up to "SAC Killer Trainer." And when I went to GLCM, my mug said "If You Can't Lick 'Em, GLCM." If the balloon went up we always said we would end up as "Irradiated pink mist and bone chips.” It occurred to me many years later that during the Cold War that we were America’s version of Kamikazes…turn your key and “bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.”

BGM 109G - Rocks Moscow All Night Long!

And, of course, the old SAC dictum: Non-punishment is ample reward for a job well done. As I recall, SacKiller taught me that, during one of his many career guidance sessions.
