Program 437 - Nuclear ASAT

Postby TDRSS on Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:31 pm

Anyone have any experience working on Program 437, the nuclear tipped ASAT at Johnson Atoll in the Pacific? The historical information available on it (Internet and in print) is minimal.

Thanks,

The museum at Vandenberg AFB has quite a bit of information about this program.

I was at Vandy in 2001, and Mr. Jay Pritchard was pretty tight-lipped about what SLC-10 actually did.

He was pretty open about everything else - guess I will plug him for information the next time I visit.

Any "old-timers" out there with stories about Program 437? I do enjoy a good "so there I was..." story...

Cheers,

Took a tour of SLC-10W last week, and I must say, it was pretty darn cool. Inside there is a D-21 drone in awful shape, sitting right next to the *only* remaining Program 437 ASAT (sans warhead, obviously). Got a few nice pics of it, if anyone is interested.

Ciao,

QUEST magazine had an article on the 437 program at JI. If I find it I will let you know. Mostly the island ops and not much else.
