Launch Facility Site Lights

Postby Tim on Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:39 pm

I'm conducting research on a project and am curious: How many site lights were topside on the LF?

I have heard one to possible 4. I use to know, but with the passage of time...

Would appreciate any input.

Interesting question and looks like you got the answer. When were you at IQT? I was there Feb - May 1980 on my way to ILCS at Whiteman (80 to 84). We graduated in May 80 and guys going to Malmstrom were also in training same time we were.

Thanks for the input. My wife, a former mnx officer (MM II, IIIs) thought that their may have been four light poles on the sight, but that was some time ago.

Must have been well before my time. All the sites at the 341 SMW had two poles for lights.

(did the old-style security system banjos have lights on top of them? I don't know, but I do have a lightning rod from one.)

Hi Dick,

I was in ILCS26, arrived at Vandy in mid-October of 1980 and left for Malmstrom in Jan 81(?) We also where a combined Malmstrom/Whiteman class. Do any of the following instructors ring a bell? Carl Hamlin, Chuck Powers, Bill Gilbert and Gerry Giaconda. Bill Gilbert and Chuck Powers were memorable...mostly for dubious reasons.

Best Regards,

Tim

You're probably right. My wife and I were at Malmstrom 1981-1985 so I'm not aware of any cosmetic changes to the topside lighting either way, but your info is most helpful.
