What Air Force were we in at Minot?

I was on active duty from '69 through '73, and I can't remember which numbered Air Force we were in. (Yeah, yeah, it was the US Air Force - I'm asking about 8th or 2d or which numbered AF.)

15th AF out of March AFB, California. Of course you have to remember that 1969 to 1972 we were not part of the AF, we were SAC.

Both missile and bomber wings should have been 15th AF.

Sorry, since this is the missile forum I thought missile was implied - and I totally forgot about the bomb wing. 91SMW.

:->

Thanks, Bill. I thought it was the 15th, but I was looking at their history somewhere, and I didn't pick up any relationship to Minot, although the 2d at Barksdale now seems to be where the 91st is attached now. Or am I completely confused?

I remember it was the 15th because I had my AFROTC summer camp at March AFB in 1968 and we got to see the command post.

In the early 70s the 9 missile wings were scattered between 8th and 15th AF. I can't remember whether any of them were in 2nd AF which was also assigned to SAC. But then in the mid 70s all 9 missile wings were briefly moved to 15th AF. The plan was to move all the bomb wings out of 15th and into the other two numbered AFs. Just about all the missileers thought this was a great idea.

But the pilots figured it out, and after just a few months, some of the missile wings got moved back to 8th AF.

Huh! Me, too, in 68. We were there the same year. Summer camp was between junior and senior years, right? I graduated from college in '69.

Yes it was between Junior and Senior year of college.

I was in Hotel Flight with Major Semple as the TAC officer.

It was nice that we got to go to an Angels baseball game, Edwards AFB, and go on a KC-135 refueling mission
